What has happened to us matters
Over the past few decades, both research and experience have consistently shown that “what has happened to us” — as individuals and as a community — affects how we behave. When bad things happen to us — in our childhood, in our streets, and in our communities — that has a real impact on our abilities to work, go to school, and raise successful families; it profoundly impacts our entire future.
The Healing10 trauma informed paradigm is a way to help individuals and communities heal from the injury that traumatic experiences create. We envision a Camden community transformed by its capacity to understand, heal from and prevent trauma.
Changing the Question Changing the Outcome
At its core, the trauma informed paradigm is an organizational and community shift from “what is wrong with you” to “what happened to you”. This shift is key to creating a new healing framework in Camden. Healing10 trauma informed paradigm is a way to help individuals and communities heal from the injury that traumatic experiences create. We envision a Camden community transformed by its capacity to understand, heal from and prevent trauma.
How will that happen?
Our Mission is to equip Camden community members and service providers with the knowledge, tools and resources needed to make Camden trauma-informed.
While there are many organizations and people working to advance a trauma-informed approach to emotional care in Camden, Healing 10 is a formal system to collectively plan, coordinate activities, collect a unified set of data to measure progress, and advocate for trauma informed approaches. In addition, this “community of communities” will provide cohesive leadership to confront the profound impact of trauma in Camden.
